Artists In Residence Program

April 23, 2009 Estudio LOS ALMENDROS--ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

Dear friends, colleagues and all interested,

Cordial greetings from the Estudio LOS ALMENDROS, a place of renewal and inspiration where Nature reveals its wonders to help us look inside. The presence in the Estudio LOS ALMENDROS of engaged researchers and artists in the movement arts and sciences and other disciplines, who share their investigations through workshops, classes, gatherings, performances, exhibits, is cultural nourishment for the community.

Since 2005 we have been creating the conditions so that professional artists, academicians and other notable human beings may reside in the Estudio LOS ALMENDROS to be able to realize their creative activities, enjoy the exuberant tropical nature of this part of the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, as well as be a part of and share with the local community in whichever ways they find appropriate. Presently we offer residencies of 1-3 months for those desiring to engage in sabbatical studies, research and creative projects in the movement arts and sciences and other disciplines in a quiet retreat setting.

There is choice of lodging:

(1) in a traditional costarrican two-bedroom house recently renovated, 80 meters from the beach, large kitchen-dining-salon, a storage room, washing area, bathroom, corridor, large surrounding garden, fresh and with very good ventilation—eight windows and roof with heat insulation, totally furnished, equipped kitchen, telephone, high speed internet at $850/month;

(2) in the ‘Rancho Redondo’, a two-story building, with a bedroom upstairs and a open downstairs area which includes kitchen-dining-living area, bathroom, washing area, surrounding garden, access to high speed internet connection, at $500/month,; and

(3) in small bungalows, double occupancy, each with adjacent open area with hammocks, one with a private bathroom and three sharing a separate bath house with toilet, showers, sinks and washing area, all sharing a fully equipped common kitchen nearby with a large dining area also with access to high speed internet connection, at $350/month.

 The residents will also benefit of free use of the Estudio for their personal use and free participation to some of the classes and activities taking place at the time. This is a privileged area in terms of its natural resources, as well as for the presence of a quite diverse international community.  At this time we are calling for artists working on the appreciation and protection of the natural environment whose work can inspire and motivate us to protect and cultivate what is here.
